Label Spotlight: Sub Pop

Most famously, Sub Pop is the label responsible for introducing the world to Grunge through Nirvana and popularizing both with enormous success.  During this period Sub Pop founders, Bruce Pavitt and Jonathan Poneman, turned a sleepy North Western Coastal city (Seattle) into a Mecca of head-banging youth culture.

Though the days of Grunge rest quietly behind us in the archives of rock-n-roll history, Sub Pop continues to release great music and has managed to stay relevant with popular taste. With a diverse roster of interesting artists that includes Chillwave innovator Washed Out, Baroque-pop folkies Fleet Foxes, and spaced out lo-fi rockers Beach House (just to name a few), Sub Pop not only stays relevant but continues to release music that is championed by taste-makers and music fans alike.
